A studio and a lab
Future Self LLC is an independent engineering practice. It exists to turn human problems into production software at a pace that agentic tooling now makes possible — without trading away correctness, accessibility, or durability.
Studio Story
Future Self grew out of two decades of hands-on technical leadership and engineering management. The pattern that kept repeating: the distance between a clear idea and a shipped system was mostly friction — scaffolding, glue code, integration, the long tail of production hardening.
Agentic coding tools collapse that friction. The studio was founded to work that way on purpose: a written spec, a phased plan, and coding agents driving implementation against governance files that keep the work honest. What ships is small, fast, edge-hosted, and built to stay standing with little maintenance.
Principal
John Fricker
John is the founder and principal engineer of Future Self. His background spans engineering leadership and management across product and platform teams, with recent focus on pioneering agentic software development — designing the workflow, the guardrails, and the review practice that let a single engineer operate a full delivery lifecycle.
The current portfolio ranges from civic-tech financial-data platforms to digital-humanities archives, all built and operated with the same lean, edge-native approach.
Operating Principles — The Future Self Way
High Velocity
Agentic workflows multiply output across product development and research — a spec becomes a running system in days, not quarters.
Data Integrity & Human Focus
Software is built to empower the people using it and to inform citizens. Sources are cited, pipelines are auditable, and the humans stay in the loop.
Minimal Footprint, Maximum Durability
Lean, edge-deployed, accessible, and fast. Static artefacts on a global network outlive the databases and servers they replace.
